Family House, Prague

Idea projektu

The house is located in the Prague district of Kyje, at the edge of the capital city of Prague, within a short walking distance from the metro station Rajská zahrada. The allotment is situated in a newly developed street Pivoňská, which is right next to a calm neighbourhood Na Hutích. The structure of the newly developed allotments corresponds with the already existing stabilised housing area. The site is relatively flat, slightly dropping towards the northwest, accessible from the east. The context of the site and the client’s demands defined the spatial aspects affecting the final appearance of the building. The client is a woman with two children; therefore, the communal rooms were the most important; however, the privacy of the inhabitants was not neglected. The location of the site at the end of a quiet development enabled the connection of the building with the surrounding nature via a large corner glazing in the kitchen where is also the access to the exterior terrace and the natural pool. The main emphasis was put on the connecting the interior with exterior (house with nature) which is highlighted by using natural building materials and thoughtfully treating natural resources (using solar energy, recycling grey water, etc) and also on the smart organisation of internal spaces supporting the family spending time together.

Popis projektu

The project was developed in two stages – architectural study and then detailed project documentation. The architectural idea is based on playing with different levels and the opened living room across two levels. The lower level is formed based on the slight slope of the site towards the garden. There is also a non-typical connection of kitchen – living room – gallery and a study room. Due to the connection of these spaces the building appears spacious and airy. The structural system is from cross laminated timber panels using blown-in cellulose from recycled paper as a main thermal insulation which is complemented by wood fibreboards. The part of the project are detail plans, sections and axonometry of the structural system.

Technické informace

Apart from the detailed plans and section including the structural system of the building (already mentioned above) and all other parts and layers which are a part of this project, there is also a documentation of all building services and technology. The emphasis was put on the energy efficiency and sustainability of the building. The house uses solar energy via photovoltaic panels located on the roof, retains rainwater in the natural pool in the garden and recycles grey water. It also uses ventilation system with heat recovery. The house is a passive building with space heating energy demand of 15kWh/(m2year) and the overall heat transfer coefficient of 15W/(m2K). The build-up area is 173 m2 and net internal area is 192 m2.
