Homlongsætra Viewing Platforms

Idea projektu

Norway is considered one of the most beautiful countries in the world due to its harsh nature with glaciers, high mountains, deep fjords, rocky islands, and waterfalls emitting noble and wild energy. The aim of the project is to design a space for meditation and admiring the landscape. Space where nature plays a key role. Thanks to its privileged location in Geirangerfjord, oposite the Seven Sisters waterfall, this proposed area will become very vissited by visitors of this natural attraction.

Popis projektu

My project is placed to the already existing natural viewpoint, which is located on the branch of the tourist route, not far from Homlongsætra. I make the viewpoint safer and more comfortable. The five platforms unfold around the rock reef as a fan. Three of them are sightseeing, the largest serves as a shelter and the smallest has an esthetic function. Stairs are cutted in the rock. Next to the stairs are stepped benches with wooden cushions under the shelter. On them tourists are protected from the rain or the sun and they can enjoy the view of the Seven Sisters waterfall. Under the stairs is the largest viewing platform. Other observation platforms are connected with smaller steel stairs. The shape of the platforms is based on the number of their free peaks, which is gradually decreasing.

Technické informace

I chose the construction as light as possible, made of galvanized steel. The truss is anchored in the rock by micropiles. The sides of the platforms are sheathed with sheet metal. Platform floors and stairs are made up of a grate. The railing is made of square pipes and filled with stainless steel wire mesh.
