The aim of the proposal was to revitalize the common areas of Faculty of Law, Charles University. The Faculty is housed in a heritage - listed building built in first half of 20th century. All modifications correlate with the original materials and enhance the potencial of the space. The changes are mainly focused on improving lighting, surface treatment and multiplication of free time zones.
Popis projektu
In the area of the entrance lobby, the changes relate exclusively to the ceiling. The original ceiling, which optically weighed heavily on the space, was replaced by a simple ceiling with recessed spot lights that give the space plenty of light while increasing the space optically. Another change was the relocation of the barrier-free ramp. The ramp was moved to the side next to the stairs so that any movement of the immobile would not cause collisions when more people entered. The atrium is one of the key spaces. On the most attractive side of the atrium was clipped an art installation which is an element with an organic motif, symbolizing lightness and airiness. The design of the installation is tasked to lighten the strict geometric systems of the building while bringing a sense of elation over the weight of accountability in the field of law. The installation also fulfils the function of additional lighting. This is a proposal to highlight the potential of that side of the atrium. In the future, for example, another sculpture may be installed in collaboration with any art faculties. The atrium has also been supplemented with residential stairs that multiply the seating capacity of the existing condition. The proposal also deals with the modification of the cafe, whose operation in its current state causes a collision in the corridor area and also partially addresses the lack of seating. When it comes to the space of corridors and staircases the design improves residential conditions and lighting. Existing lights have been replaced with modern ones with a greater range of light and additional wall lamps have been added. Next, a seating furniture was added.
