Tamsui House, Taiwan

Idea projektu

The goal was to design a four-member family house in Taiwan. The site is located in Tamsui District, New Taipei City very close to Tamsui River. The site provides a wonderful view of the mountains across the Tamsui River. Besides that, there are around six valuable old banyan trees on the site along north and west border of the site. Banyan trees don't have only the aesthetic or environmental value but they also can provide a protection of the house against a west hot sun. Together with other climatic influences, these aspects have become the main design elements. Another design elements, necessarily to be taken into account was the fact the Tamsui District is a quite popular tourist area and along the north side occurs a four-lane road. Along the south and west borders of site occurs a pedestrian zone which works like a connection between touristic attractions, such as Tamsui Old District, Old Tamsui Customs Wharf, Fort San Domingo, etc. This fact is in conflict with making sure a private on the site and providing the view across the river, especially in the south area. The four-lane road makes a huge noise coming from the traffic. The main project idea was to provide a private and calm atmosphere on the site and connection between the exterior and interior as much as possible.

Popis projektu

The site was divided into four main parts: north, west, and south garden and the two stories house. The site has four entrances: two through the north garden and two entrances through the south garden. The north entrances are connected with main four-lane road and the south entrances are connected with the pedestrian zone. The house is divided horizontally to the living area and the supporting area, and vertically to the "public" zone and private zone. The living rooms, bedrooms, etc. are located on the west of the house and restrooms, bathrooms, etc are located on the east side. Gardens and the first floor provide the main living areas for family members and guests, whereas the second floor provides the private zone for family members only.

Technické informace

The building is connected to public networks of electricity, water conduit, and sewerage system. To provide a cooling, heating, and hot water the solar cooling system is installed. The rainwater is collected from the roofs and terraces and stored in the underground tank for later use. The wastewater is pre-cleaned in the three-chamber septic tank and sent to the public sewerage system.
