Idea projektu
This project proposes a modern monastery in the village of Vilémov, where a historical monastery once stood before its dissolution. The design balances contemporary architecture with religious symbolism, creating a spiritual and functional space for a monastic community. The concept respects the site's heritage while introducing modern elements that enhance the monastery's purpose and connection to the surroundings. The main concept of the project is inspired by the parting of the Red Sea before Moses, symbolizing a spiritual path and transformation. This idea is reflected in the architectural form, where the monastery’s structures open up like waves, guiding visitors and monks through a sacred journey. The monastery complex is also located on a purification pilgrimage route that stretches across a large part of the Czech Republic, providing a place of reflection and rest for passing pilgrims.
Popis projektu
Our design focuses on creating spaces for a secluded monastic community. These include monks' cells, a library, and a church chapel, which is the only area open to the public. A bell tower, designed as a lookout point, is also part of the complex. Another key element of the monastery is a standalone small brewery with a tasting room. Additionally, a separate hostel provides shelter for passing pilgrims, offering them a place to rest.
Technické informace
The primary structure of the monastery complex consists of a steel frame supporting glass panels, ensuring both stability and a contemporary aesthetic. The roof is composed of undulating polycarbonate sheets, creating a dynamic and light-permeable enclosure. These "waves" are protected from potential damage by visitors through the integration of a water feature, which acts as a natural barrier. The bell tower is designed as a grid of thin, translucent marble slabs, allowing light to filter through and enhancing its symbolic presence. Non-load-bearing partitions are constructed using drywall systems, ensuring flexibility in interior layouts while maintaining a clean and modern appearance.
