Idea projektu
The idea of the project was creating a gallery and a nice place to spend some time in a beautiful place in the heart of Prague. Facing difficult obsticles was no exception in this project. Like the utilization of cardinal directions or the in depth thought about details of construction without losing the aesthetic that I went for.
Popis projektu
The plot on Libušina Street is relatively enclosed, with multiple access points. The historic Vyšehrad wall and the sokol hall’s façade create a space that I decided to fully utilize. Just as Cubist art was created, this gallery is built on geometry, the golden ratio, and a diagonal axis that guides visitors throughout the entire gallery. Inside, it connects key spaces, while outside, it forms the angle of the café’s cutout, creating a cozy passage leading to the communal space behind the gallery. The gallery is designed as a place where exhibited artworks stand out. Its volume, at first glance simple, reinforces this goal. Its orientation was chosen to create three distinct spaces: The northern space serves as the gallery’s service and supply area. The western space is divided by a wall that extends from the sokol hall, forming two separate areas—one for passersby heading to Vyšehrad and another for visitors who want to linger after the exhibition. The southern space is a relaxing area. In summer, the café opens into this space, and nearby steps leading to Vyšehrad also serve as seating.
Technické informace
The building is made of concrete for maximum authenticity. More on that in the construction and details PDF. Load bearing walls are creating the outline of the gallery and inside drywall panels create the spaces for the art.
