Beirut Is a city with a lot of problems such as insufficient public and green space, severe pollution and the memory of exposion disaster. PORtOUS CITY starts from the reflection of current situation to re-imagine the relationship between life and production, city and nature, as well as history and future. The design concept proposes a new city model which integrates the old, vernacular and humanized city with the productive, post-disaster and vacant port. In the design, we generated a distorted urban grids from the current urban morphology to bridge life and production, creating a symbiotic industrial layout. The green spine intervents more public and green space fro the citizens to integrate city and nature for the potential sustainability. The Monumental Axis help the city to review the history, envision the bright future. PORtOUS City will form a sharing, resillient, and symbiotic future!
The project site is the wharf area and surrounding urban area after the Beirut port explosion. It aims to use a set of urban design strategies to make up for the urban trauma of Beirut after the explosion, and to meet the needs of event commemoration, urban development and ecological protection.
