Project idea

In the industrial area of the Iosefin neighborhood in Timisoara, Romania, right next to the Water Tower, five artists chose to spend their time living together.
The site is located at the intersection between Gheorghe Baritiu Street and Nicolae Titulescu Street, so I chose to give the corner of the site to the public, and the concave shape of the building draws attention to it, with the help of the glass facade, people from outside are invited to enter the interior of the house.
The construction is made for the co-living of the five artists. They have spaces both for living together, but also individual spaces for privacy.

Project description

The attention falls on the two gardens that complement each other through the circular shape, while the front yard is open to the public, the shape given by the construction intended for the five artists outlines a welcoming space. In opposition to this is the backyard, intended only for the residents of the house but also for spending time with their guests.
The construction develops on different heights, from the ground floor, the exhibition space and the transition space to the backyard. One floor, the painters' workshop, and the highest is the construction of the houses that develop on two floors and an attic. The spaces are different from the point of view of the height regime, but at the same time they communicate with each other both inside and outside.
The two spaces facing the Bega river are intended for the exhibition, thus being open to anyone who wants to admire the artists' art.
On the ground floor, with access to the two spaces used for exhibitions, there is also the artist's workshop with an opening to the roof, on half of the surface there is a roof that allows passage to the terrace.
From the workshop you can reach the backyard, which is at the basement level leading to the common room, where you can have a meal, but at the same time it represents a place of state and recreation. This courtyard represents the green, private space of the atrists, but at the same time it also represents the courtyard of light for the basement.
To reach the upper floors, you have to go up the stairs that are in one of the exhibition spaces. On the first and second floors of the tall building are the living rooms, two on each floor, in the form of apartments where the artists can rest, but they also have a place where they can work in privacy.
The fifth apartment can be found in the attic, and on the right side, passing the glass wall that allows lighting of the staircase, there is a common room in which, with the help of the loggia, you can admire the city from above.
