Project idea

A zero-energy building, also known as a zero net energy (ZNE) building, net-zero energy building (NZEB), or net zero building, is a building with zero net energy consumption and zero carbon emissions annually. Buildings that produce a surplus of energy over the year may be called "energy-plus buildings" and buildings that consume slightly more energy than they produce are called "near-zero energy buildings"
The project Goal is to generate as much power as it consumes by supply strategies and reducing energy needs through renewable energy, technology, design techniques, and to ensure achieving energy savings while meeting the constraints of sustainability, economics, and indoor environmental quality.

The Objective is to achieve:
1 -overall sustainability and cost-effectiveness.
2 -Space conditioning, consisting of heating, cooling, and outdoor air ventilation.
3 -Equipment Efficiency.
4 -Best design solution for saving and utilize energy

Project description

The project is a new trend that interest the world which in the nearest future will be a reality, an office building in Riyadh-Saudi Arabia that called net-zero-energy building named by the construction characterized by zero net energy focusing on environmental standards, climate change, natural resource conservation, pollution, and ecology. In this project, we have carried out a study to analyze the performance of a zero energy building and find the possible best solution to have such building in Riyadh.

Technical information

The project will develop and support technology innovation and job growth with deploying the measurement science to move the nation towards high-performance buildings while maintaining healthy indoor environments. The iconic project is a 5-floor office building in site with 6600 sqm, the site includes solar panels that used as a shade for parking and open area that gets shade from the orientation of the building to give social awareness of zero energy. the concepts start by studying, defining and analyzing between different shapes for the building that suits the environment to choose the best shape and orientation that gets all benefit energy that comes from the sun and wind. The elevation of the iconic building was designed by an architectural and constructional grid by having one service zone that serves all companies to ease distribute the rooms according to their needs. also, the air conditioning strategy is a huge vacuum to take advantage of the previously cooled air and reusing it to cool the building. The elevation has been processed according to the needs of each interface, for example, the southern façade created as a solid elevation with louvers panels that reduce the heats that comes from the sun.
