The presented project "PLATINUM RESORT" is a hotel complex designed for the Matutuíne District in the Maputo Province in southern Mozambique. The location for the design is situated on a challenging terrain, offering exceptionally picturesque views.
This hotel complex, according to the authors' concept, consists of three main elements: a hotel building with a restaurant and administrative rooms, an observation tower with a helicopter landing pad, and separate cottages for tourists.
The volumetric and spatial solutions are stylistically very close to the works of the world-renowned architect Shigeru Ban and look quite aesthetically pleasing. In addition to visualizations and diagrams, the work includes references to animation, which also helps in understanding the design decisions.
At the same time, there are several remarks regarding the work. First, the presentation lacks detailed floor plans with explanations, making it impossible to assess the quality of the planning solutions. Secondly, there is no information about the situational diagram, urban planning analysis, or the master plan of the territory, and the visualizations do not show the possibility of access to the cottages. Considering the steep terrain, this could be a significant issue. Thirdly, the use of transparent constructions for the roof in such a hot climate raises questions. Fourthly, there are concerns regarding the description of the materials used. Judging by the visualizations, the external enclosing structures are made of glued timber. However, this is not mentioned in the description, which instead provides information about the use of bricks made from locally sourced earth on the site. It would be useful to clarify where exactly these bricks are used in the building, as this is not visually evident.
Overall, the above-mentioned comments do not significantly affect the overall impression of the work, which has been completed at a medium level. I wish the author of this work, Shanawaz Alli, further creative success.
