Thanks for participating “Student Architectural competition for a conceptual design of the STU campus solution”. I believe competitions provide large laboratory to exercise new ideas, take place in a larger architecture community and this is very important for an architecture student’s progress in our profession. I understand that you wanted to integrate the existing building complex as well as external circulation flow with each other. However, it is not clear how the new design enhanced by this idea and how disability, bicycle and public transport are being accessed in the complex. I like the idea of hanging verandahs very much, which I believe could be the spirit of this project; but it’s difficult to understand how they operate and add to the other spaces. Perhaps Grafton Architects’ University Campus UTEC Lima could be a good precedent to better negotiate the landscape on the terraces, attractive interior circulations, and various indoor and outdoor spaces. Maybe even Arata Isozaki’s Metabolist approach (The City in the Air) could be adapted here if you want to create a new tectonic approach while hanging the verandahs. I also had difficulties grasping the sense of space thought provided 3D images. A well-studied money shot could communicate more of the core idea of this project. One of your images with staircases on both sides of the building reminded me Fumihiko Maki’s Shekou Museum’s stairs at the corner of the building that lead to the green public space on the roof which could be better fit for your idea. All the best and good luck.
