Dear Hanieh,
If this project is considered as reconstruction/ regeneration project towards sustainable development of the urban coastline of the Beirut Port, then it is important improving resilience and creativity of area through integration of:
• economic growth, (physical infrastructures, economic services, stakeholder’s participation (public/private interests) in the regeneration processes, improving institutional fragility, pollution and waste treatment)
• ecological preservation, (use of renewable energy, waste recycling and environmental protection and remediation,) and
• social opportunities, (the localization choices of residents, traders and investors in “green” and cultural/ economic activities)
All those together are the common factors that make possible: flow of people, goods and capital through this area; and in same time makes a City Port competitive towards global changes!
Port area, should be place of “identity” before being locations for different economic and other activities there; and this through dynamic atmosphere and clean environment!
As can be seen on your project (as presented in the link), there are some recommendation’s with the aim of improving presented urban/ architectural design concept with focus on:
• Possibility for better urban integration of this area with other part of the city, especially with its surrounding (traffic, architecture...) as continuity and cohesion!
• Multy- functionality and relationship between different functions there (economic, cultural, social, recreational...), will be added value!
• Eco- systems (energy, traffic...) is to be considered as an imperative!
• New identity- related to 218 victims (memorial center, or port light tower with specific architectural values, or a touristic green park, or combination of all these...) as need!
Considering my feedback will be helpful, I wish you success!
