I really appriciate the basic concept of this urban intervention. Creating a link between two communities/two margines or extending the connection will be a good step for the development of that local community. Locality becomes live, safe and intersting place. This will increase the livability of the street. Normally people like to see each other in most instances . This will be that ideal place. People will share their thoughts , meet their friends and may be this place would be a place for small events, exhibitions as well. Adaptive reuse is another idea which I really admire.
My basic concern is about the public area. If you could open up it with sides as well as from the top, this will look more spacious and people will feel more comfortable . Tripple height spaces between the buildings are not always nice, therefore we can do some architectural interventions to treat that expression. Also the pathway looks bit narrow , It could be widen by taking the path into the building .
The design would be much interesting if you could connect the path in several levels and have several pathways in connecting levels.
Also you could address some specific cultural features of the area through architecture and make your design a place which reflects the identity of your area. Apart from that I hope the design will merge or match with the existing building fabric though I could not see any rederings regarding them. Make the entrances more welcoming . You can add simple architectural features .
Overall the design idea is really good. I just wrote few of my comments here. But still your approach is still in a really appriciatable level. Good luck.
