We live in a world where each one has his own direction in life but somehow time manages to join everything together. In architecture, time equals space.… more

First, I need to talk about the site analysis of this project. She identifies the development of the port area from 1887 to 1995. it shows how the port area evolved. It's a good approach for this type of project. How the context and environment change through history is crucial for the design process. It will help to imagine the future of the project and how it will evolve with the context. In addition, it would be better if she analyze the development from 1887 to the present day. it will give a more clear image of how things worked before and how it going to work in the future.
with that, the analysis of the activity patterns in the area shows a very good approach to the design. Organizing circulation is the most important thing in this project. Otherwise, it will be a busy place. the way she arranged the circulation is perfect. The two roads and the two intersections will work out well.
The use of public space is the key to the success of this project. she identifies that public spaces link the areas. It's good that use the public spaces to connect the areas. But it will be more interesting if she adds more activities to the public spaces. this public area will be crowded with people all day. it means it will attract more people to it. So it would be nice if the passengers or visitors could engage with the public spaces. Live public spaces are most important in these types of designs. I strongly suggest reading Life between Buildings and New city spaces by Jan Gehl for getting further knowledge about developing public spaces.
Finally, the project defines the identity of each space without contrasting it. because of that the whole design act as one core. This is a challenging project her approach through circulation and activity patterns gave her freedom to do the amazing design.
Dear Shehan Dasanayake,
Thank you for your feedback, i will definitely consider the information given in my next project.
As for the advice about public space, i would like to agree on what you said and add that the project has certain area for live public places on the ground floor for creating a dynamic space even at night when there is no visitors coming or going.
