The project is dedicated to the development of industrial monotowns in Russia, where the priority is to improve the quality and the citizen’s comfort of the urban environment. In general, efforts are focused on overcoming the facelessness and uniformity of the settlements created back in the Soviet era, mostly based around city-forming industries. In this regard, the chosen topic of the project of monotowns with the idea of clustering of multipurpose cultural centers -activators of the socio-cultural life of citizens- seems very relevant.
The practical significance of the project lies in the creation of a design model of a multipurpose cultural centers based on cluster platforms - Art, Technology and Sports. The dominance of the educational function creates a precedent for the integrated solution of them, pursuing cultural, educational, and recreational goals. At the same time, it fufills the mission of aestheticizing the spaces of industrial single-industry towns. Project proposals for the creation of a multifunctional center are based on the organization of the environment of three clusters and systems of walking and cycling routes.
The systemic nature of the presented project combines the stylistic features of architectural bionics with innovative forms of recreational environment organization, while using the existing space as an integral component of a long-term socio-cultural process. It is adapted to the modern practice of environmental design due to its modular structure of shaping in conjunction with the figurative-stylistic, restrained coloristic and technical technological solution. Considering the potential engineering and architectural detailing, the concrete implementation of the project is possible.
The planning structure of the clusters is determined by the figurative concept of the project "Geometry of Nature - New Aesthetics of the City". The volume-spatial composition of clusters consists of geometric modules, which makes it possible to use the principle of combinatorics to the maximum.
An advantage of the project is that represents a holistic example of working with the environmental design concept of a cluster multifunctional cultural center with the introduction of various design areas, including work with volumetric graphic elements (super graphics, navigation and art installations), a combination of materials (metal, wood, transparent polycarbonate), multi-level structures (two-level modules, eco-trails), eco technologies (covered greenhouses, exploitable roofs, green frame formation).
Multifunctional zones of the cultural center for active and relaxing recreation, education and leisure activities are designed for different age groups, including the category of citizens with limited mobility, implementing the concept of a barrier-free environment.
Finally, the particular interest of the project resides in the introduction of the principles of ecological design, architectural bionics, the use of recyclable materials and alternative energy sources into the environment of an industrial city.
The project deserves the highest rating.
