In this project, I will re-invent transitional housing and create expandable systems that allow one or two kids to join the single parent residing in these transitional houses. My goal is to design a healthy and comfortable temporary home for single parents who were previously homeless or incarcerated while addressing water scarcity in New York City and conservation method using design and technology.

The design inspiration came from the nursing behavior of whales, the mother whale nurses their offspring for an extensive period, feeding them, protecting them from harm, and teaching them, and they develop a strong bond during this period. I wanted to express this bonding in my project, to make the users feel connecting with their children. The design strategy to help solve the city’s water shortages, and pollution is by implementing both the Greywaters Recycling system and the Stormwater Management system in order to reduce human consumption of freshwater sources. From the city’s standpoint, collecting and reusing water is not just alleviating the stress on the water distribution system but also helps save the nearby waterway and environment.

The building is made with mass timber structure, the capsule shell is made of steel and the interior is made of wood.
