The project represents the development of vertical city agricultural farms. It is a modern trend in urban ecology.
Technologies of intensive cultivation of plants in multi-storey buildings make it possible to grow fruits and vegetables in a small area. It is beneficial to expand such agro complexes in large urban agglomerations, in city zones with the dry climate and countries with a land shortage. In general, in those territories where, for one reason or another, it is difficult to develop local agricultural enterprises.
Vertical farms are automatically controlled enterprises today with artificial lighting, heating and air conditioning, closed water circulation and sterile air. Plants in them are found on various tiers, so the agricultural area is ten times larger than the area of the buildings. Vertical farms are, in fact, real industrial facilities.
The concept of the city farm is based on a modular principle, where a block system of containers for growing plants is fixed in load-bearing steel structures made in the northern regions by the national Indonesian steel company Krakatau. The block structure is made in a vertical way and occupies 3 floors. The project is based on the eco-principles of using closed water circulation with rainwater collection, air filtration, transparent ceilings for sun light concentration, natural construction materials. At the same time the project takes care of the economic benefits in the strategic development of the cities in Indonesia.
The proportions of the constructions reflect the traditional Indonesian architecture. The overhangs of the roofs and light reflectors are made in the special way to show the peculiarities of the National culture. This is one of the advantages of this project.
Today the world is facing the growth of the challenges related to the climate changing, world water security, limited natural resources and natural catastrophes.
And it is logical that traditional agriculture today faces more problems than before: increasing number of droughts and floods, urbanization of previous agricultural areas. We realize that the existing agriculture that is very important today cannot feed people in the future. So vertical agricultural constructions could be very important in near future.
