PROJECT - DAR AL-SHEFA’A HOSPITAL

PROJECT IDEA AND PROJECT DESCRIPTION -

Project idea and project description are very general which could be applied to any hospital design. “The design concept of the hospital aims to create comfortable spaces that cater to the needs of both visitors and patients” – This cannot be the concept. Further “The building has been meticulously designed to facilitate smooth and easy movement between different departments, with a focus on accessibility and compatibility. Additionally, great attention has been given to providing a comfortable climate through smart design of lighting, ventilation, and protection from the sun and wind”. Those are applicable for any average design and the student has never got a significant reason or problem identification for the project.

According to the partaker, the site is located in Sacramento city, close to the golden state highway. The site provides close access to the St. Hope public school for convenience. But with the design development the connections among surroundings are not properly reflected. It would have been better to have city map with commercial, educational and other related buildings with activity connections to identify the proposed Hospice sustainability and connectivity. Basically high standard of Macro level research is missing.

It would have been better, if more information is given regarding surrounding residents. Their socio-economic level and social cultural lifestyles. According to my perception the socio-economic level seems to affect the lifestyles of patients and their visitors and many factors are linked to the geographical area and may depend on environmental, cultural and social aspects of the city of residence.


GENERAL COMMENTS -
• It is very important to have the partaker’s insight and design philosophy prior to the design development. According to me those are missing. Further I cannot see a concept for the project. Accordingly, it is very difficult provide a true validation to your design.
• Location and the urban responses have not been conferred.
• Design brief with major activities or important areas are not discussed.
• Specific user group is not highlighted and the cannot see whether this hospital is catering for some identified diseases or illnesses
• Due to less research as an Architect, design has become just building which could be used for any other events.

DESIGN-
• Design is rather confusing.
• Buildings are forcibly connected with a boring bridge.
• No proper Floor plans other than the concept diagram.
• Sections are poor and nonfunctional.
• No elevations and cannot see the response to the surroundings.
• Total design is very introverted and stiff.
• Design has not mainly catered to user category since the student has not identified a problem.
• Developed 3D images are very strange and highly questionable.
• Those images have destructive rather than constructive.

OVERALL COMMENT-
Very Poor design
