Adaptive Reuse of St. George Museum
Since Architecture is a leaving history, it is interesting to keep up the heritage of each country and culture.
The intention of the project is to keep history, however by keeping history we ought to respect this history and its heritage.
Reviewing the project some comments are below:
- It is a museum, and this is a public space I believe we shall take into consideration the accessibility of physical disability people; we must give them access to visit this museum the old and the new one.
- Two different architectures, existing building with its heritage and new architecture that is imposing on it, which is the intention of the designer, however this resulted in the diverting of the history that existed.
- The combination of materials between the stone and the white color is interesting but it can be interesting to add some stone to the new building just as a reminder of the existing finishing.
- The large numbers of circular openings in the new museum can disturb the visual of the visitor while visiting the museum.
- Two entrances for the museum?
- No relation on the ground floor between the old and the new one?
- Circulation between floors
Dear Robert Karam, First We would like to thank you so much for giving us an educative comment. Just to answer the questions raised; the first entrance of the new museum leads to the basement in which visiting starts. The second one serves as an exit ;closer way to the ground space and for other activities. The ground floor of the old and the new museum are not connected because each has its own specific history to tell. The new one mainly focuses on the architectural heritage of Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahdo Church.
