The project had a strong concept/idea – entering the mountain (from shadows to light); bringing elements of the past at the beginning of its inception. The idea to ‘frame the view’ of the dam is commendable.
However, I feel that the designer fails to consider the beauty of the existing site with the slope and nature surrounding it. By having two rectangle mass butchering the site, the natural contour and view are disturbed. Major earth cut is required to built this building. No mention about sustainable building features in the proposed building. Many of the spaces are embedded it the cut slope without considering energy usage to ventilate it. The potential to have 180 view of the bay is lost.
Overall, the project initial idea of “to connect with nature and discover the richness of the landscape through sensory tours and the architecture” not achieved. I think today there is no excuse for not touching about sustainability in any project, especially when building with nature.
