The idea and goal of this project was to create a museum complex on the site of the ruined historical quarter number 2 in Yaroslavl. We relied on the principles of working in the historical context of the environment, used the techniques of dematerialization and devisualization to create ghostly facades that exist between the tangible and intangible layers of existence. We tried to create a fog from which the silhouettes of long-lost buildings that once existed on this site emerge.

The area of ​​the territory is 5 hectares. It includes 3 buildings of the museum complex, the improvement of the "Boulevard of Peace" and adjacent territories. One of the main ideas was to create a ghostly facade, repeating the silhouette of the lost Church of St. John Chrysostom, which would look different from different points. This facade is made of various profiles of metal strips riveted to the glass part of the building, the silhouette of which repeats a classic house for these places. In the frontal projection, the church does not exist, but with volumetric perception, when playing with light and shadow, the image of the lost historical heritage appears. The second part of the museum complex is made of metal and glass. The two-layer facade, repeating the tectonics of the nearby buildings, creates a haze effect, dissolving in the air. The first layer of the facade is made of glass, the second - of white metal. The building overlooking the embankment looks like a fishing net stretched over vertical white posts - a classic metaphor for this kind of places, behind this net there is a purely functional volume of the building made of glass.

The main materials in this project are cold glass and metal. Warmth is preserved only on the Mira Boulevard, on both sides of which there are rows of kurdaners with wooden picket fences - places of privacy on the way to the church.
