Work description
HYDROHM is a spin-off company of Ghent University (Belgium) and the MELiSSA program of the European Space Agency. Within HYDROHM we focus on the development of electrochemical processes for water treatment. We see an emerging trend towards more local and more sustainable water treatment, but the dependency on the use of chemicals in most conventional water treatment technologies is a bottleneck. We believe that electrochemical technologies, i.e. technologies in which the chemicals are produced locally by using electricity as a driving force, are a key enabler towards local and sustainable water treatment. At HYDROHM we are working hard on technology development from lab to market scale. Within this internship you have the opportunity to join our R&D program and work at the lab-scale development. You will have the opportunity to work on a number of application-oriented projects, which will give you valuable experience and a steep learning curve. HYDROHM is in the start-up phase, which will give you the opportunity to join and learn from the fast-paced, driven and results-oriented working culture. The work will be carried out in our laboratory, with direct guidance and mentorship from our R&D lead. This internship will specifically focus on the electrochemical extraction of target components from an industrial side stream. You will assist in building laboratory-scale setups, operating reactors, performing analyses, establishing experimental plans and analyzing and reporting results.
