Work description

Project Title: Computational study of Unicondylar Knee ArthroplatyDetailed Project Description: The knee joint is subjected to severe damage in the cases of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. In such cases, a surgical process called Unicondylar Knee Arthroplasty is performed which involves the replacement of the specific damaged portion of the joint with an implant. The approach is more efficient than Total Knee Replacement where the entire joint is replaced with an implant. In this project we intend to perform a comparative study of the pre-operative and post-operative effects of implant design for Unicondylar Knee Arthroplasty on the knee joint using Finite Element Method. It requires the development of a CAD model of concerned bones and an implant with available data and performing analysis using finite element software.Outcomes of the Project:• Review and understand the problems and solutions involved in knee arthroplasty• Learn and efficiently use Image segmentation software and FEM softwareExpected Results: Development of a Finite element model of the knee joint with implant.
