Work description
You will evaluate long-term management methods for mercury wastes, which became newly designated as waste under the Minamata Convention on Mercury that entered into force in August 2017. Various accelerated leaching tests will be conducted in our laboratory to assess the long-term stability of sulfurized and solidified waste mercury. Additionally, through site visits to intermediate treatment & final disposal facilities for mercury waste, as well as visits to leading company of mercury analyzer in Japan, you will learn about the current situation of mercury waste management under the Minamata Convention in Japan through this internship.
