First of all, I congratulate the precise drawings of the student, well done. The pier proposal on Galle Face Green is interesting. It seems it is a protest to the disturbing high rise gentrification projects established in the town by creating horizontal spaces more permeable to the public and less hectic, chaotic. While designing, the existing context of the site thought carefully and the route starting from the Lotus Tower is very well organised. On the other hand, proposed Gate Face Pier has some problems. The functions / functional zones locate one after the other can not define a proper public alley. Besides, in terms of the architectural designs on the pier, each has different character regardless of existing context of the side. For instance, the proposed seafood restaurant as the modern extension of Galle Face Hotel is designed with some resemblance to Victorian Architecture. But, then the rest with open air activities are unconscious of the beginning part of the pier (Galle Face Hotel side). I recommend that these two parts could be designed more in coherence to each other. Besides this seafood restaurant’s folding roof cause problems inside (ocean view deck, kitchen,..) and outside (very sharp steep amphitheatre (outdoor dining steps)..).
