1. STRENGTHS: Interpreting the memory of a place in terms of heritage architecture and the importance of its preservation (specific understanding of the unique environment) convincingly. The subject matter is well understood and close to the candidate's ‘heart’ and sensibilities. He presented the realities of the chosen site well and with insight.
2. SHORTCOMINGS: The heritage architecture is of a colonial period and its linear form forces a unidirectional exhibition\narrative; therefore, ‘forcing’ the users/visitors to see and feel what the architect wants them to see and feel. This he proposes without entering into the merits of such an approach.
3. CREDIBILITY OF ARGUMENT: Good investigation in terms of relevant events (timeline) but could benefit from precedent studies representing similar transformations.
4. DESIGN RESOLUTION: The masterplan, landscape, and interiors have been well illustrated but are constrained by the monolithic spaces and volumes; consequently, creating a monolithic phenomenon.
5. TECHNICAL INFORMATION: Acceptable.
6. GENERAL COMMENTS AND RECOMMENDATIONS:
6.1. Consider creating a focal point at the intersection of the two axis; this could enhance hierarchy and legibility.
6.2. Show perspectives for the new proposed buildings.
6.3. Show precedent-study.
6.4. Consider creating varying volumes along the narrative space to enrich phenomenology.
