Idea projektu
At present, the entire inner block is almost completely closed to the public, it is devoid of life, space for leisure activities, with zero public space. The existing areas are mainly occupied by static traffic and do not benefit from the lack of greenery. The overall space looks fragmented and closed and one does not know where one is. It is clear that there is no unifying and dominant element in the space. Because of the poor technical and aesthetic condition of the existing buildings in the inner block, I decided for their vigorous dismantling and cleaning of the whole area. The subsequent zoning of the individual boarding and central spaces of the inner block will help me to clearly and cleanly define their primary function. The main focal area is a kind of new brain of the whole zone. On its boundaries, I place a mass that precisely defines the unifying character and dominance of the inner block. An important step is to open the site to the public as much as possible, making all existing entrances accessible. By complementing the main communication elements, I will establish compositional lines that do not disrupt the complex internal environment and do not appear fragmented. As a result, the Faculty of Civil Engineering and the Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology are directly connected by a pedestrian promenade and boarding areas leading directly to the entrance of the building, overcoming an elevation difference of 3.5 m. The raw material composition will be lightened by the inner atrium, which is inspired by the original design by Martin Kusý senior, from which only the auditorium of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and the laboratories were realized. To enhance the experience, the second step is the creation of an arcade through which the promenade passes and also functions as a "funnel" inviting the people thanks to the residence's staircase and entrance to the building's atrium. The absence of a dry-foot connection between the individual faculties forced me to create a footbridge, which, however, becomes part of the architectural and compositional design of the whole area of the inner block. The final step is to maximize the green areas in the inner block and on the roof of the proposed building, resulting in the increased overall attractiveness and space for leisure activities.
Popis projektu
Simplicity, linearity, purity, sovereignty, dominance, clarity. All these elements that I presented in the concept, I tried to transfer into the architectural design of the new innovation centre of the STU. The object should have a certain solemnity, iconicity, which is mainly attributed to its function, but it still has to be a great experience for a person, one must have a pleasant feeling and it must be a place where he will want to spend as much time as possible. The main element of the proposed building is its open atrium, the heart of the building around which the life of the interior takes place. The atrium is entered by a residence staircase from the covered passage, which is the second and most visible dominant feature of the building. The platform leading to the main entrance has an elevation difference of 3.5 m. The facade consists of a clear linear regular grid repeating around the entire perimeter of the building. Its unconventional colour choice is meant to evoke a memorable, but not distracting impression of the environment. The building consists of 2 underground and 4 above-ground floors. On the lowest floor, the 2nd underground floor, is situated the underground parking, which is accessed by a ramp from Radlinského Street, next to the Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology. Other additional spaces are of technical character and fulfil the role of the proper functioning of the entire complex. Because of the 3.5 m elevation difference, it was also necessary to deal with the layout of the individual floors, therefore the 1st underground floor is only partially recessed. The ramp from the garage will take us to the smaller part of the underground parking together with the supply of individual workshops of the innovation centre and the facilities located there. The café and the shop are directly accessible from the covered passage connecting the Faculty of Civil Engineering and the Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology. Entrance to the 1st above-ground floor is accessible through the main boarding area or the atrium of the building. The main entrance hall is a space spanning over 2 floors in total with a representative staircase. There is a reception and a cloakroom, a chillout area, recreation spaces, the administrative block of the innovation centre, which is directly connected to its workshops and laboratories on the 1st underground floor. The layout on the north-eastern part is complemented by spaces intended for exhibition. The second above-ground floor is formed by the administrative block of the rector's office and the block of classrooms and lecture rooms, which are complemented by the residence staircase and a lecture hall. The third floor is an important communication element, connecting the innovation centre with the Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. Around the atrium are situated recreation areas for students, a media centre, a food court, and a start-up centre. On the top floor, the green residence roof is situated, which is intended to fulfil relaxation function.
Technické informácie
The construction is designed as a combined reinforced concrete skeleton and a wall system with a core with an axial distance of 8,200 mm. The beams are stored in both longitudinal and transverse directions. The building is based on footings and strips. The individual partitions are mainly formed by sliding acoustic partitions, which creates the possibility of variability and different adaptation of the space for individual facilities. Almost on the entire roof of the residence character, an intensive composition of greenery is proposed. Non-residential roofs have the character of extensive composition. The facade is made up of a light perimeter cladding on a metallic base with a combined method of assembly (panel-lattice). The main supporting element is the grid, made up of unidirectionally oriented vertical or horizontal bar elements. Panels independent of the position of the supporting structure of the building are fitted into the grid.
